The Dolomites

Landschaft in Alta Badia

The Dolomites, also called "pale mountains" comprises a mountain range in the East-northern Italian Alps contained between the provinces of Bolzano, Belluno, Pordenone and Udine.

The glacier Marmolada is the highest peak with 3343 m above the sea level. This type of rock begins to evolve throughout many transformations at least 250 million years ago.

The landscape nowadays is angular and rich in differences in height and the raising of the rocks is still under way.

In 2009 the Dolomites were declared UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE.
